Privacy
I maintain confidential records and will not release information to anyone without patient or parent/guardian consent. As I do no third party billing I do not ask that patients sign a HIPAA release. I do use a computer in my practice and I work with a web-based practice management program. The program, Psyquel allows me to manage my practice online. With a few exceptions all computer files are not on my computer at all. I do maintain a hard copy backup of all files. This provides greater computer security than I could ever maintain as a doctor in solo practice. All data is not only secured physically and electronically it is also backed up regularly at the Psyquel facility in San Antonio. I do have a HIPAA business associate agreement with Psyquel. I do not save any patient phone numbers in my cell phone.
