Insomnia

Sleep problems arise because of psychiatric difficulties, pain, jet lag, shift work, poor sleeping habits, alcohol, caffeine, lack of exercise and many other causes. In the current information age sleep has become a most precious resource and everything in our world seems to conspire against it. In my practice I deal with many facets of insomnia. Many individuals who suffer from insomnia can benefit from behavioral changes as well as medications that either treat underlying problems such as depression or directly target sleep problems. Sleep problems vary through the life cycle. Careful attention to regular sleep/wake patterns is essential. Healthy sleeping behaviors, or sleep hygiene, require thoughtful practice.
